Clifford Gerald Phillips is a professionally taught artist who has received national and local recognition as an artist. Clifford has had his art work featured in the Chicago Defender. His works have been on exhibition in galleries and his talent has been sought out by many. Clifford took his first art class at the Art Institute of Chicago (summer arts program) while he was in elementary school. He studied Mechanical Drafting at Bowen High School. He was later employed as a Mechanical Draftsman for Western Electric and Bloomer-Fisk Corporation. He took drawing classes at Kennedy-King College in Chicago and he trained under the renowned artist Dr. Charles White.
He worked at the Chicago Daily Defender as a Graphic and Production artist; and later he went on to work for the Chicago Tribune, where he became the Operations Manager for their Advertising Creative Division. He retired after 28 years of employment. He also held the position of Art Director for the Indigo Mega paper. He started his company Phillips Fine Art because he wanted to utilize his artistic gifts, and produce his very own works. He likes to paint using Acrylic on canvas and also enjoys drawing using pencil and charcoal. “My sources and inspiration come from my travels to Europe and Africa. My art pieces attempt to inspire and draw the viewer into seeing the beauty and natural surroundings of out planet. Over the years I have attributed my professional successes to God, self-discipline my Mother and Father and family”
