What is the Black Chicago Heritage Initiative?
The BCHI is a project led by the City of Chicago. Its goal is simple: to uncover, save, and share the hidden stories of Black people in Chicago. This project covers all 77 neighborhoods in the city.
Why Does This Matter?
Chicago is home to many Black Americans. In fact, nearly one-third of the city’s residents are Black. Many of these families came to Chicago during the Great Migration.
