Mother Carr’s Farm

In 2004, Vernon Park Church of God purchased over 70 acres of farmland in Lynwood Illinois for the purpose of developing Vernon Park Village. In 20012 Vernon Park Church of God started “Mother Carr’s Garden on one acre of land. Mother Julia Carr, who passed away in 2008, was a long time member of the church who loved gardens and stressed the importance of healthy eating and connecting with nature. Since its inception the garden has produced over 35,000 lbs of pesticide-free produce and led to the development of a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) on 10 of the 73 acres of Vernon Park Village. A CSA is a community of individuals that come together and support a farm operation. Each member purchases their membership share at the beginning of the season and in return receives a bi-weekly supply of seasonal produce harvested from the farm. Their season begins the middle of June and lasts until the beginning of November.
