Lawrence & Shirley Gibson became the sole owners of Phoenix Shell in 1978; they redesigned the business to become a gas station & mini-mart, becoming the first gas station in Cook County to sell liquor. In the earl 1980’s a new franchise agreement enabled them to become Gibson’s Mobile. The business thrived & became Gibson’s Citgo in 2003. It is the only black & family owned gas station in the Chicago-land area 15221 S. Halsted 708.596.5085.
